The Cranbrook Skating Club offers programs for skaters at different stages of development, from learning foundational skating skills to pursuing figure skating, developing hockey skills, or continuing to skate recreationally. 

Use the information below to find the program that best matches your skater's experience and goals. 


LEARN TO SKATE

Our Learn to Skate programs provide a progressive introduction to skating and help skaters develop the fundamental skills they need to move confidently on the ice. Programs are designed to support skaters at different stages, from their first experiences on the ice through continued development of their skating skills.

Pre-CanSkate

Pre-CanSkate is an introductory skating program for young children that encourages a “learning through play” philosophy. Skaters develop basic skating skills while becoming comfortable and confident on the ice.

Age: 3-5 years old

CanSkate

CanSkate is Skate Canada’s Learn to Skate program. This progressive program teaches fundamental skating skills and provides a strong foundation for figure skating, hockey, ringette, or recreational skating.

Age: 5 years & up (or younger if your skater has completed Pre-CanSkate)

FIGURE SKATING

Our figure skating programs provide skaters with the opportunity to develop their skating skills through focused instruction in areas such as skating skills, jumps, spins, and program development. Skaters progress through the figure skating pathway based on their skills, experience, and individual goals.

Rising Stars

Rising Stars is an introduction to figure skating. This program teaches introductory figure skating skills to skaters who are interested in pursuing figure skating recreationally or competitively.

Best For: Skaters transitioning from CanSkate into figure skating

StarSkate / CompetitiveSkate

STARSkate / CompetitiveSkate provides skaters with opportunities to further develop their figure skating skills through focused training, testing, and competition. Skaters can pursue their individual goals through recreational or competitive figure skating, with coaching tailored to their level and goals.

HOCKEY

Our hockey-based program focuses on developing the skating skills needed to move confidently, efficiently, and effectively on the ice. Skaters build skills such as speed, agility, balance, edge control, and power that can support their development as hockey players.

 

Power Skating

Power Skating is a program focused on developing the skating skills needed for hockey and ringette. Participants develop skating essentials such as speed, agility, balance, and control.

Prerequisites: Participants must be able to stop without assistance and skate backwards the length of the ice.

Age: The age range for this program varies based on the needs of our community. Typically we run either a U7, U9, or U13 program.

SKATING FOR LIFE

Skating isn't just for kids. Our Skating for Life programs provide opportunities for adults and recreational skaters to stay active, develop their skating skills, and enjoy time on the ice at any stage of life.

 

 Adult Skate

Adult Skate is a great option for those who want to learn a new skill, get a workout, or improve their skating abilities.

Best For: Adults and high school/college students looking to learn, improve, or enjoy skating recreationally
